If you like sci-fi and clever-clever character names, you might like this book. I don't recommend it to anyone who isn't specifically into sci-fi - the cover blurbs aren't exactly true...
Our book group enjoyed the fun randomness of this novel. Not all of us were able to catch all the British puns but we had fun discussing the ones we were able to point out. Reading the original novel, Jane Eyre, helps but is not necessary to understand the story. It was a fun, light novel that you can enjoy as long as you can let go of reality.
A wonderful treat for readers to come across a book about books and their characters while at the same time a satire/mystery.
If you like puns and literary humor this author is for you. These books are campy, smart and fun. If you are well read the layers of humor will be endless, if not you can still enjoy the imaginative alternate reality Jasper Fforde creates, where cheese is smuggled like drugs and pet dodo birds brought back from extinction are the norm. I have read every book in this series as well as the nursery crime books. I LOVE this author.
