I've heard this book compared to The Hunger Games and it is not that. I think that The Hunger Games series was able to appeal to a wide age range where this story really is targeted to preteen - teenage boys. I read all 3 books in the series and it just didn't do anything for me. I especially disliked the made up language to replace swear words and the fact that Thomas is supposed to be brilliant but doesn't act that way.
Not the typical type of book I would read. Had trouble getting into it. Overall, glad I stuck with it but not ready to read the others.
Couldn't wait to hand it over to my 13 year old grandson who will totally enjoy it.
If you're like myself and into the futuristic distopian thing, this is definitely for you. It's the right amount of dark, twisted, daring, and fast paced to keep the reader turning pages. You'll be finished before you know it.
This book has been compared to other popular dystopian novels. It isn't as engaging as Hunger Games and Divergent. The first 250 pages are very slow and provide too much background. I had thought I would enjoy the series, but my the time I got to the end of this book, I was bored.
Well, our club was split on this book. Some thought it not interesting at all, others found it fascinating!! Maybe the YA choice was not the best for this group!!
Very unique premise with fast-paced action and one twisted ending.
