You don't have to love horses or horse racing to love this book. If ever a horse had personality this is it. A moving story about a horse and the lives of the people that knew him. The book is ever so much better than the movie.

A wonderful read. This is a book everyone can enjoy, but is great for people with a love of horses.

"Sea Bisquit" by rnns1999 (see profile) 10/09/09

This was an interesting read. Unfortunately I found it a bit dry. The background information into the depression, the lives of jockeys and horseracing made it worthwhile. Amazing how important one horse could be to the world!

"Great story" by madriver (see profile) 02/11/10

Seabiscuit was an amazing horse, with a huge personality, surrounded by people who loved him who also had interesting stories. I knew nothing about this horse and little about racing, but found this book to be fascinating and filled with humorous anecdotes that made me laugh out loud. I haven't seen the movie, but will look for it now.

"Excellent" by lvenning7 (see profile) 06/04/10

We loved this book. It is more a history of the US than a "horse" book. The author was well researched and the book was well-written. It was exciting to "watch" a horse bring a nation together. The author also did an amazing job of bringing the characters to life.

"Non-fiction that reads like a great novel!" by tompatrice (see profile) 11/14/10

This detailed story of Seabiscuit grabbed me from the first paragraph to the last. I couldn't put it down. It's non-fiction that reads like a great novel. Hillenbrand loving details the life of this marvelous animal as well as the lives of the three men who are inexorably tied to Seabuscuit. I loved it!

"nice story, not too much depth" by melly123 (see profile) 01/09/11

Enjoyable, especially for horse &/or racetrack fans. Interesting facts, and inspiring as a true story.

"One of my favorite books" by beckylord (see profile) 04/30/11

This book is riveting--and this coming from someone who knows nothing about horses or racing. I loved it! Hillenbrand has done some excellent research, and her writing style will leave you feeling like you were "there". Cheering for Seabiscuit, of course!

All the while I read I felt like I was reading a fictional story. You don't have to be a horse-racing fan to enjoy Laura Hillenbrand's detailed account of how an underdog horse, his owner, trainer, and jockey give people something to cheer about. I found it very interesting to learn all the behind the scenes things that go on in racehorsing - some of which were hard to believe.

I found the book to be really slow but others in the club liked it better than I did.
