Of the books my club has selected so far, this was one of my favorites. An interesting tale, full of drama and intrigue. I found the historic references to be fascinating. I was rooting for Kuisl and Simon the whole way.

This is a simple read, as long as one can stomach torture scenes. However, because it is written in contemporary language, it doesn't create any atmosphere whatsoever; it's more like watching a cheaply made, black-and-white movie from the 30's. Additionally, this book has the longest denouement on record; I found myself wondering if it would ever end. There are so many well-written books out there that I found this one a waste of time.
