We won this book from this site and we were all excited to read it before it became a known quantity. I have a real thing for magical realism so I was primed to like it. There were varying opinions about the more mystical features of the book but I can honestly say that this book provided one of the best and longest discussions that we have had. Even those who took issue with the magical other worldly qualities of the book were taken with the character development and the intricate weaving of the characters plot lines. A few of our readers thought that the writing could have been tighter. The "Not Now I'm Reading " readers
It was different for sure! It had its moments and some interesting characters, and I enjoyed the folksy humor. It was definitely an adult fairy tale, as advertised. It was a bit too weird for me, and the childish illustrations didn't appeal to me. (I would have rated it two-and-a-half stars" if I could have.)
