"A Guilty Pleasure" by lauriew (see profile) 11/27/07

A great example of an airplane book should be light reading. It must capture the imagination immediately and keep the readers attention for the entire trip. Blood Red by Heather Graham proved to be a thoroughly enjoyable airplane book that satisfied this criteria beautifully. It was well written and moved along seamlessly. Even with the subject matter of vampires, it was quite believable. This was what we consider "a guilty pleasure” and a fun read. The story line was interesting, but it took too long to play out. It reads like an authors first novel. Some of it was over dramatic, but I guess you can't be too dramatic when you are dealing with vampires! A younger person would probably enjoy it more. The policeman character was interesting and added a lot to the story. The author was also good with incorporating the physical description of a scene, along with the action. One could easily identify the places she referred to, while also being drawn into the action of the scene. The two fortuneteller scenes were a good example of this.
