This book was depressing from start to finish. The language was too heavy and symbolic, almost like the author is trying too hard. Some interesting insights, though.
I kept hoping this book would come together in the end but it really never did. The writer seemed more interested in impressing himself with his language than telling a cohesive story.
A friend in book club reccommended this book. The first Chapter was interesting, then the entire 1st. half was aweful, drawn out way too long. Then it picked up in part 2, but still, it seemed like he was alway "tapping someone on the shoulder". Even after his wife showed up. And he never even thought twice about her...And the ending was aweful. Does Claire die? Was she dead? Does Ester go to look for her mother? What happened. Nothing comes together again in the end, just he's sitting by the hole, making other kids sick, to save himself.
