Rather than stand up and cheer for this YA coming-of-age protagonist, I really just wanted to ground this girl-on-the-outside, boy-on-the-inside. So many opportunities were presented to this teen that could have opened new doors or help ease the stress of not being accepted. But instead of focusing on positive outlets (getting your own radio show, working at a record store, entering a DJ competition! -- who gets these opportunities?), Elizabeth/Gabe chose to focus on negative or immature actions. The main character read more like a spoiled tween than a senior in high school. Alternative suggested titles: If You Could Be Mine by Sara Farizan (GLTBQ issues) or This Song Will Save Your Life by Leila Sales (Music).
