This book is a fast-paced thriller, set in cities across Europe and based on historical events. It sparked a serious discussion about historical and present-day genocide as well as the appropriate roles of and relationships between political and religious institutions.
Weaving together history about what happened in Italy during WW2 with the Nazi\\\\\\\'s systematically gathering up the Jewish people living in Italy (and throught Europe) while the Pope looked the other way. Vatican intrigue, history lesson and a thriller of a book with hero Gabriel Allon, art restorer and Israeli assassin seeking to find the reason his friend was murdered (manuscript of a book about what really happened in WW2 and the complicity of the Pope/Vatican).
This was a intriguing read that captured your attention making you want to keep reading. The twists and turns and the depth of characters made it the good read that it is.
