"I liked it enough to keep reading, but...." by riegerd (see profile) 10/17/11

it wasn't my favorite Nicholas Sparks. It was kind of gloomy because you wonder from the beginning how this married woman her one true love (that she's not married to) are going to reconnect and make it. I liked the characters and the set-up to the climax with them, but I felt a bit let down at the end. But overall, if you like his books, you will probably enjoy this one and it does have some good talking points for book groups.

Nice romantic story of looking back, but overall it was unrealistic.

I liked this book, but didn't love it. It reminded me a lot of the notebook. Forbidden love by parents, forced apart, reconnected by going home.... You get my point. While the story and ending are vastly different I couldn't help feeling like this story had been told before. It's still a good story, don't get me wrong I enjoyed reading it, but that's probably because we've all had those feelings before and wondering if you made the right decision.

Our group was split about 50/50 on this book. Those who liked it felt it was an easy read but they knew something bad would happen. The others found the style uninteresting and the plot too predictable.

I was hopeful this book would be a wonderful, quick read. The story started out good - but did remind me of The Notebook. By the middle of the book, I felt like I was plodding through, just waiting for the "hook" that would get me to the point that I couldn't put it down. I don't want to give anything away, but I guessed the ending and PRAYED I would be wrong. SURELY it wouldn't be THAT cheesey, would it?!? I actually found myself skimming it to see if I was right. Gag! SO disappointing.

This is my second book written by Nicholas Sparks having read "The Wedding" previously. I really was intrigued for most of the book and then.... Yeah, it follows his same formula of someone dies and a lost love. Why is it that his books are so predictable? Well, because they are. This was a really great story until the last few chapters of the book so I admit that I really enjoyed it till then. The characters were well developed and I felt compassion for their plot in life. I just wish he would have chosen an entirely different ending and it would have made all the difference.

Definitely caused me to choke up a lot. Reminded me of a lost love that will never be fulfilled. But, I have children who would never have been born had I followed my heart.

I read it and it held my attention so I suppose that is a plus, although I skipped most the words after page 250 or so because it was completely predictable. Simplistic and too much like his other romantic stuff. Boy meets girl, boy and girl are separated, boy and girl are reunited... True love never dies...... Really?

Contrived, pointless, predictable.

Written in true Nicholas Sparks fashion; the book grabs your attention. Emotionally you are drawn in and hope it ends in a fairy tale happy ending. The story line is somewhat predictable but remains high interest until the last few pages. It seems the author hurriedly contrived an implausible chain of events to finish up the book. I think it warrants a book club read and discussion.

"Did they do the deed?" by DGriffin (see profile) 01/11/15

Good romance mixed with a big dose of suspense. Our book club read this book and spent a good amount of time debating whether or not therinciple characters actually went all the way. In the main part of the book it appears that they did the deed for certain. However, the author tacked on an epilogue that stated otherwise. We\\\'d be interested in hearing from other clubs and readers on which side they fall on.

Found the novel intriguing to say the least . Which is expected of Nicholas Sparks works. Keeps one guessing and the ending is always surprising. Never boring, a page turner for sure. But than again I am a Sparks fan. This novel made for a lively discussion with our group.

While I like Nicholas Sparks\\\' books, I don\\\'t feel they are good for discussion at a book club.
