After a bit of a slow start, the book pulls you in with a lively childhood in the graveyard. Jack, the person responsible for the murder of the boy's family is still looking for the child and intends to finish what he started. A wonderful cast of otherworldly characters guide Bod's (short for Nobody) education and assist him during the eventual conflict.
This book was a well written, thoughful book on a subject that isn't usually written about. You can actually feel empathy for Bod for everything that he is going through. The ending leaves it open for a sequel.
Great fun, good read, but what isn't good by Neil Gaiman?
I read this book aloud to my teenage boys while on a camping trip. They begged me to keep reading when my voice was giving out. This book was perfect for a family read. The boys were intrigued and the adults were interested. I bawled through the ending. My son, not being a mother, was totally lost as to why I was so emotional. This book is very close to my heart!
So I didn’t love it! I know many people do and even my entire family liked it (dad, sons 13 & 15).
I found the story ok - I didn’t hate it but I didn’t love it. I felt the story was slow and left a lot of questions at the end.
