One year before its publication this January, Universal bought the rights to the spy thriller NEED TO KNOW by former CIA Analyst (and Fulbright scholar) Karen Cleveland.
Theron will produce the film through her Denver & Delilah Films production company, as well as star.
Cleveland wrote the book about a CIA analyst wife & mother who discovers her husband’s picture in a file while investigating Russian sleeper cells in the U.S.
Cleveland wrote the book while on maternity leave (!) from her job as a terrorism analyst at the CIA. She says she wrote the book during naptime or after her children went to bed.
The idea came to her after she first joined the CIA and was warned about foreign agents who may try to form relationships with her. When she first met her husband, shortly after joining the CIA, the thought occurred to her: What if he is too good to be true?
